Beaumaris Castle

Beaumaris Castle | Beaumaris

Begun in 1295, this unfinished castle is the last and largest of King Edward I's Welsh fortifications. Designed by the king's mason-architect, Master James of St George, it is a perfect example of a concentrically planned castle. Formidable defences survive, surrounded by a partly restored moat. The castle is a World Heritage Site.

This attraction can be easily visited whilst staying in the Conwy Valley, and is 17 miles (27 km) from Betws-y-Coed as the crow flies (straight line distance). See the routeplanner below for a suggested route and estimated journey time.
